Räumlichkeiten, Gebäude und (Weg-) Strecken nehmen in dem Roman „Das Schloss“ einen großen Stellenwert ein.

Trotz genauen Lesens ist es dem Leser jedoch nicht möglich, sich einen topografischen Überblick über die räumlichen Verhältnisse in dem Roman zu verschaffen. Nun ergibt sich die Frage, worauf dies zurückzuführen ist, welche Ordnungsmechanismen vorherrschen, wenn es sich nicht um topographische „Einheiten“ handelt und warum dieser Art der Raumdarstellung eine solche Wichtigkeit zukommt.

Im Folgenden soll zunächst versucht werden, die Räume darzustellen und zu charakterisieren. Danach werden Verbindungen zwischen Räumen und einzelnen Figuren aufgezeigt, sowie einige sich daraus ergebende gesellschaftliche Mechanismen in der Schloss – Dorf – Gemeinde dargestellt. Es soll versucht werden, gesellschaftliche Hierarchien in Verbindung zu Räumlichkeiten herauszufiltern.
