Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2000 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,0, Freie Universität Berlin (Deutsche und Niederländische Philologie), Veranstaltung: Proseminar "Georg Büchner", 35 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, ob in der Darstellung des Volkes in Büchners „Dantons Tod“ ein vollkommener Pessimismus hinsichtlich der politischen Handlungsfähigkeit des Volkes zum Ausdruck kommt. Dabei werden zunächst die unterschiedlichen mikro- und makroskopischen Perspektiven untersucht, die Büchner wählt, um ein möglichst vielfältiges Bild von der Pariser Bevölkerung in der Zeit der Jakobinerherrschaft zu entwerfen. Anschließend werden einige Figuren aus dem Volk, die von Büchner speziell hervorgehoben werden, betrachtet, um schließlich die Verwendung volkstümlicher Ausdrucksformen wie Lied, Witz oder Wortspiel in den Vordergrund zu stellen. Die Untersuchung kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass Büchner in „Dantons Tod“ dem Volk durchaus sympathische Züge verleiht und Mitleid für seine materielle Not erkennen lässt, dabei jedoch vollkommen pessimistisch hinsichtlich seines revolutionären Potenzials ist. Als kollektiver öffentlicher Akteur erscheint das Volk unselbstständig, wankelmütig, beliebig manipulierbar und blutrünstig; im privaten Bereich stellen politisches Desinteresse, Triebhaftigkeit und die völlige Beschränkung auf individuelle Bedürfnisse seine wesentlichen Merkmale dar.
