Liane weiß auf einmal zu ihrer Erleichterung, dass ihre Mutter die Tatsache erfasst hat. Sagen musst du es ihr, hatte Oma verlangt.
Aber die Erleichterung schlägt gleich in Schreck, Entsetzen, Versteinerung um. Sie steht, lässt sich nun ohne Protest die Kindersachen von Steffi aus den Händen zerren.
Inge Peterson hat die Netze, wo sie steht, fallen lassen, blickt ungläubig auf die große Tochter, schreit: Nun sag endlich was! Als Liane weiterhin schweigt, stürzt sie auf das Mädchen zu, greift sie bei den Schultern. Sie ist durch ihre Arbeit kräftiges Zupacken gewohnt; so spürt Liane schmerzhaft die Hände der Mutter, die sie schütteln und an ihr reißen.
