NPOs stehen im Fokus vieler sozialwissenschaftlicher Untersuchungen und Studien in Deutschland und weltweit. Sie nehmen vor allem in Deutschland eine bedeutende Rolle im Beziehungssystem aus Staat, Markt und Gesellschaft ein. Insbesondere Verbände und Vereine als Ausprägungsart der NPOs sollen im Verlauf der Belegarbeit hinsichtlich ihrer sie kennzeichnenden Merkmale und Prinzipien, sowie ihrer Interessenvermittlungs-, Sozialintegrations- und Dienstleistungsfunktion näher erläutert werden.

Bezüglich der Interessenvermittlungsfunktion erläutere ich die Begriffe „Interesse“ bzw. „organisiertes Interesse“ und untersuche, welche Rolle Verbände bzw. organisierte Interessen im politischen System aus der Sicht der Theorien des Pluralismus, der Neuen Politischen Ökonomie sowie des Neokorporatismus spielen.

Der Abschnitt Dienstleistungsfunktion befasst sich mit den Verbänden allgemein und deren Arten und Gründe der Dienstleistungserstellung. Darüber hinaus wird ein Verband im Sport näher betrachtet.

Anhand der Sozialintegrationsfunktion wird herausgestellt, was soziale Integration eigentlich bedeutet, inwiefern Sport integrierend wirken kann, was unter dem Begriff Sozialkapital verstanden wird und wie Sozialkapital zur Integration beitragen kann.

Das Ziel der Belegarbeit soll es sein, Kenntnisse über NPOs und deren Struktur sowie Funktion in sportbezogenen und nicht sportbezogenen Handlungsfeldern in Deutschland zu vermitteln und/oder zu vertiefen.
