Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Filmwissenschaft, Note: 1,0, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Institut für Medienwissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Figur und Perspektive: Konstruktionen in Fernsehen und Kino, 20 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Ein ‚psychopathischer Norman Rockwell’, der ‚Wizard of Odd’, der ‚Zar des Bizarren’, oder auch ‚all American Martian boy’ sind nur einige der Bezeichnungen, die in den letzten Jahren für David Lynch gefunden wurden , in dem Versuch seinen Hang zu Kleinstadtidylle und Horror, Traum und Trauma, exzessiver Gewaltdarstellung und unschuldiger Nostalgie zu beschreiben. Lynchs Filme folgen ihrer eigenen Logik und Ästhetik, und weigern sich dabei beharrlich ‚traditionell’ zu funktionieren; stattdessen zersetzen sie die klassischen Darstellungskonventionen des Hollywoodkinos. Insofern sind Lynchs Werke exemplarisch für die Postmoderne und Lynch treibt das Spiel mit Allusionen und Ironie, Nicht-Linearität und Absurdität weiter als die meisten anderen zeitgenössischen Regisseure, die in Hollywood Filme machen. Auch Lynchs Wild at Heart (USA 1990) funktioniert nicht im Sinne erzählerischer Rationalität, Kausalität und Kontinuität. Ganz im Gegenteil spielt hier Dekonstruktion eine wichtige Rolle, und, so stellt Georg Seeßlen fest,
„diese Auflösung betrifft die drei wesentlichen Grundzüge filmischer Erzählung gleichermaßen, nämlich den Raum, die Zeit und die Personen.“
Die ‚Auflösung der Person’, wie Seeßlen es nennt, soll im Folgenden unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Art und Weise postmoderner Figurenkonstruktion genauer untersucht werden. Trotz der überwältigenden Zahl von Beiträgen zur Postmoderne-Diskussion seit den 50er Jahren, gibt es allerdings kein theoretisches Analysemodell für postmoderne Figuren, was auch daran liegt, dass das, was als Postmoderne bezeichnet wird, sich einer Definition immer wieder entzieht, da sie in ihrem Wesen fragmentarisch und heterogen ist , und sich eher durch einzelne, durchaus widersprüchliche Merkmale, als durch ein komplexes Theoriemodell beschreiben lässt. Daher werde ich zunächst einige allgemeine Charakteristika der Postmoderne darstellen – wobei ich mich hauptsächlich auf Ihab Hassans Text „Postmoderne heute“ und Fredric Jamesons „Postmoderne – zur Logik der Kultur im Spätkapitalismus“ stütze – die ich aber gleich am Beispiel von Wild at Heart auf den filmischen Kontext beziehe. In einem zweiten Schritt werde ich dann die Figur Sailor Ripley aus Wild at Heart vor dem Hintergrund dieser Merkmale analysieren und einige allgemeine Konstruktionsmethoden ableiten, bzw. der Frage nachgehen, wie zentral die ‚Auflösung der Person’ für die postmoderne Figurenkonstruktion wirklich ist.
